Demand for services at the Drop-in Center outstripped initial estimates. At just 800 square feet, the existing facility has several limitations in creating a safe environment for participants and staff. The Drop-in Center lacks a private outdoor space and multiple emergency exits, features that other day centers have across our system. In spite of those limitations, Do Good Multnomah staff created a program that was profoundly beneficial to participants accessing much needed services in their community. However, the Board of County Commissioners, tasked with making significant budget reductions in Fiscal Year 27, voted to reallocate operational funding for this program in order to preserve other vital services.

While documentation of the number of individuals who have benefitted from the Drop-in Center can be difficult to quantify, over 333 unique individuals in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) were recorded as visiting the Center over the past year. During the last quarter of Fiscal Year 2026 (April through June 2026) the Drop-in Center served 104 unique participants. An estimated 75 individuals visited the facility each day.

Among the people receiving services at the Drop-in Center last year, 48 were referred to emergency shelters and 18 received housing related coordinated entry services. 21% of households were assessed for housing.

The Drop-in Center is still taking new participants at this time; however, they are no longer offering new sign-ups for mail service. The last day the Drop-in Center will be in operation is August 31. Do Good Multnomah staff are assisting participants in connecting with other organizations and establishing new routines with other service providers. Abbreviated services are possible, meaning fewer participants may be allowed inside the facility to ensure everyone’s safety.
